House Rules

No third-party bookings. The guest who booked must be present at check-in and stay on the property each reserved night. No parties, unregistered guests, smoking, vaping, or events without owner approval. All guests complete a guest agreement within 24 hours of booking and pre-authorize a credit hold. Early check-in / late check-out can be requested for a $100 fee, based on availability.

Is Serenity Zen Retreat a good Galveston rental for large groups or a family reunion?

Yes, for groups of up to 12. Serenity Zen Retreat has four bedrooms and four full bathrooms (one of them outdoors on the covered patio), a fenced backyard with a private pool, and two grills for group meals. The 12-person limit includes daytime visitors, and parties and events are not permitted.

How many people does this Galveston beach house sleep?

Up to 12 guests, across four bedrooms (two kings and three queens) plus a full-size sleeper sofa in the living room. There are four full bathrooms.

How far is the house from the beach?

The Seawall and Porretto Beach are a ~6 min walk (0.28 mi) from the front door. Stewart Beach is ~14 min on foot. These are routed walking measurements, not estimates.

Is the house beachfront?

No. It sits in the East End Historic District, a ~6 min walk from the Seawall and the beach, rather than on the beachfront itself.

Does the house have a private pool?

Yes, a private cowboy pool (a stock-tank pool) in the fenced backyard, serviced weekly. It is shallow and meant for cooling off and lounging rather than swimming laps, and it is seasonal.

Does the house have a fenced yard for kids and dogs?

Yes. The backyard is fully fenced and shaded, with the private pool, a covered patio and two grills, so kids and dogs can play outside while the adults relax.

Is this a pet friendly Galveston vacation rental?

Yes, up to 2 dogs with prior approval. The pet fee is $150 flat per stay, not per pet and not per night, so one dog and two cost the same. Dogs should be housebroken and restricted breeds are not permitted. There is no weight limit. Service animals are always welcome and are never charged a pet fee.

Is this a good place to stay in Galveston before a cruise?

Yes. The house is 1.9 mi from the Galveston cruise terminals (a ~5 min drive), which makes it an easy base the night before or after a sailing.

Is it a good place to stay in Galveston with kids?

Yes. A Greenguard Gold-certified crib and mattress, high chair, baby monitor, bottle warmer and children's dinnerware are all provided, along with blackout curtains in every bedroom, a fully fenced yard and a shallow private pool.

Can you walk to The Strand?

You can, but it is 1.33 mi (~27 min on foot), so most guests drive it (~5 min). If anyone in your group would rather not walk that far, plan on driving or the trolley.

Can I book directly with the owner?

Yes. Booking on kaizencasas.com is direct with Kaizen Casas, who own and manage Serenity Zen Retreat. You deal with the owners from inquiry to checkout, with no booking platform in between.

Is it cheaper to book direct than on Airbnb or Vrbo?

Yes, by about 13%. Airbnb and Vrbo charge a fee on every booking, so the house is priced higher there to cover it. Booking direct skips that fee: in a September 2026 check of three different stays, the same dates cost about 13% less direct than on Airbnb, before tax. Tax is charged on the lower direct price too, so the saving carries through to the total.

How much does it cost per night?

Rates run $154–$875 per night depending on season, demand and length of stay, plus a $250 cleaning fee.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is after 4:00 PM and check-out is by 10:00 AM. Early check-in and late check-out can sometimes be arranged with at least 24 hours' notice so it can be coordinated with cleaning; late check-out carries a $100 fee if it is not agreed in advance.

What is the cancellation policy?

100% refund more than 30 days before arrival; 50% refund more than 14 days before arrival; no refund within 14 days. There is also a 24-hour grace period with a free cancellation right after booking, provided arrival is at least 48 hours away.

Do you take a security deposit?

No. There is a $300 credit hold for incidentals placed when the rental agreement is signed, and it releases after checkout. How quickly depends on your bank. It is a hold, not money we collect and return.

Is there parking?

2-car driveway plus one space in the right side of the garage (three in total). The garage is a tight fit, so it is not suited to large vehicles. 2 guest parking passes are provided for street parking, which is otherwise a 2-hour limit Mon–Fri, 8 AM–5 PM, unless a pass is displayed.

Is the house wheelchair accessible?

No. The house is elevated, so there are exterior stairs to the front door. Once inside, everything is on one level with no interior steps, but the entry stairs cannot be avoided, so it is not suitable for anyone who cannot manage them.

Is the wifi good enough to work from the house?

500+ Mbps fiber internet throughout the house, with a desk workspace in two of the bedrooms. Fine for video calls and remote work.
